Software engineering support for Discovery Channel, Trouble TV and Channel 5 amongst others.Wrote the subtitle control system to integrate Pro-Bel automation with Screen Subtitling systems. This was deemed impossible by Pro-Bel engineers so was completed in house by utilising data provided on serial ports to gain hints as to the current schedule position. By bringing together many data feeds an accurate position could be acertained, and the notice given to the subtitle controller was increased from 3 seconds with the Pro-Bel link to 30 minutes with mine, enabling subtitles to be shown during opening credits, used to this day on Discovery Channel.

A mixture of vision and audio engineering with software engineering.Worked on data link and automation software in 3 tx suites at CTV. Became an expert in the requirements of tx, working as a TX Controller to gain experience.Biggest project was to build a schedule massager to be able to run an LMS playlist on a Flexicart. The LMS changes tapes in 3 seconds , while the Flexicart takes 20 seconds. This means for example that an ad break cannot be played on a Flexicart. My software analysed a schedule and pulled out all the sections that a Flexicart could not cope with, and built a new automation schedule to precompile an AB pair of tapes. Segments from these replaced the block of short form items in the main schedule. Where possible, tapes from previous days were used. The initial version took around 8 hours to precompile the material, while the final version took under 3 hours using various optimizations.
