I am currently working for Universal Dedicated providing shuttle services for John Deere Turf and Lawn Care out of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. Continuing my development as a logistics-minded manager in operations, I am in charge of 18 drivers who operate tractor-trailer combinations. My primary duty is to ensure proper safety and compliance of all equipment utilized in the operation; around 110 trailers and nine tractors. This includes DOT certification, repair assessment, and daily checks on all equipment. The shuttle team works directly with John Deere to shuttle parts and completed mowers, simplifying that step in the process.

Amazon offered my first job out of college as an Area Manager to serve the greater Raleigh area. I have around 40 direct reports (that number always changes) and my station, DRT7, processes around 50,000 -80,000 packages a night. I am in charge of running the main night shift during the first half of the week by balancing the flow of packages, engaging associates, maintaining a safe work environment and creating solutions for my warehouse to run more effectively and safely. The three main pillars of Area Management are safety, operation performance and employee experience. Maintaining these three produces a successful shift each night so that we can deliver to our customers and spread smiles throughout the Triangle.

In my freshman year of college, I accepted to be a correspondent (later promoted to Staff Writer) for Technician, NC State's official student run newspaper. I mainly work in the sports section. I am tasked with the primary goal of informing and entertaining the student body of NC State. In the summer of 2022, I had the opportunity to travel down to Duluth and complete my first internship. I worked as an Area Manager at DGT2 for Amazon Logistics. During this time, I would work with around 40 associates and would apply many leadership skills to have a smooth, safe, and efficient shift to deliver approximately 30,000-35,000 packages a night. Moving to an unfamiliar area forced me to adapt quickly to the culture as well as Georgia laws that were different than North Carolina laws. Working with the other managers as a team and developing my understanding of the team were crucial to my success as a temporary worker. Ten weeks go by quickly, so I had to learn the job as well as everyone's tendencies, habits, and preferences on the job.Amazon assigns every intern with a project that directly impacts the site. My project increased efficiency, safety, and production at the beginning of the shift and immediately after breaks. By the numbers, my solutions saved about eight - ten minutes of production, which translates to hundreds of packages. My site allowed me to observe, develop, and implement my project and expand upon my solutions following the end of my internship. Managing at Amazon gave me the tools to develop real-world skills and put my leadership skills to the test.

During the winter of 2020-2021, I decided to pick up a job at my local Food Lion. I was tasked with bringing in carts, manning the cash register, bagging for customers, and keeping the front end clean and organized, along with other miscellaneous tasks. The COVID-19 pandemic was in full effect at this point, and the task of cleaning the front end was more crucial than ever for the safety of my local community. This job taught me a lot more about public health, safety, and how important every job is to the larger operation of a business, no matter how small.
