With all the skills of a Chief Product Officer, Chief Transformation Officer, Managing Director, and Chief Operating Officer, I have led global business transformations at RELX that have driven rapid revenue growth. As a senior digital product leader with a focus on growth, I specialise in building innovative and commercially successful products, services, and businesses within the information and analytics economy. I bring a deep understanding of how culture impacts performance, coupled with a strong track record of cultivating relationships. As an expert in organisational design, I align business strategies with effective execution. My early career as an engineering leader with the Royal Navy, ABB, and Daimler Chrysler has honed my ability to lead and deliver exceptional results in complex environments.Selected Achievements:• Transforming a business which had grown by 1% p/a over a decade into a dynamic, customer focussed Division expanding by a market beating 5% p/a at the same time as significantly reducing costs.• Turning around the culture of a team to one where collaboration, innovation, commercial thinking and calculated risk taking thrived, raising its employees NPS score from -17 to +23 in less than a year, and to +52 in three. • Designing and delivering a commercial strategy beating the set revenue target of $2.7m p/a by more than 350% ($13m) in a year, before growing its revenue to $60m p/a. • Creating AI enabled ‘ScienceDirect Topics’ for the world’s largest STM research information platform, significantly improving discoverability, user engagement and usage. ‘Topics’ is now one of Elsevier’s biggest traffic drivers.• Making substantial revenue from the large multinational pilot customer of a new “Platform as a Service” offering integrating customer and publisher data and leveraging machine learning technology. After my early career as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Navy, I worked as an Engineer for ABB and Daimler Chrysler, global providers of railway signalling systems. I then moved into digital transformation at Elsevier, as a Programme Director delivering finance, production, fulfilment, customer satisfaction and business development innovations. This included the migration of production data during a major production tracking systems upgrade, and the deployment of new CRM systems. I am now keen to find a senior-level career-defining role, where my product, technical, people, commercial, organisational and change management skills can deliver innovative and sustainable digital transformation and commercial growth.

Managing Director / General Manager / Vp, Engineering Information BusinessElsevier Sep 2019 - Dec 2023Amsterdam, North Holland, NlThis role was a promotion having transformed Elsevier’s Online Reference Information business. It was also a successful turnaround of a business that had failed to grow and made strategic mistakes including failing to innovate and adapt to customer needs. I left it profitable, with a sustainable future. Above all, I designed and delivered the strategic turnaround which successfully delivered the Board’s target of 5% p/a growth. Selected Achievements: • Tasked with delivering 5% annual growth by the Board, I rapidly diagnosed this Division’s failings:o Only 1% growth per annum across the previous ten years.o A loss of corporate customers, against market trends without any understanding of why. o Poorly integrated data sources, not optimised to deliver customer value.o A very siloed, hierarchical, risk averse, innovation resistant, input-focussed culture, ando A £7m investment in failing product, previously considered the company’s future.. • Raised the employee NPS from -17 to +23 in the first year, and to +52 by the third, by completely recasting the Division’s culture, and creating the space to challenge, collaborate, innovate and grow free of micromanagement, hierarchy and fear, liberating ideas, energy and optimism.• Redesigned the organisation to deliver its business objectives, explaining to the team my new customer-centric vision, the urgency of change, and the reason for staff moves and departures. • Created a new, modern and attractive business proposition as the provider of sustainability solutions for engineers. • Solved the customer attrition challenge by engaging far more closely at key points in their journey, forming a Customer Success Team to work with clients to improve their engagement between subscription renewals. • Cancelled the failing $7m online database product having persuaded the Board its business case was poor and prospects weak, having prepared the Division for the shock and uncertainty this would cause. -
Vice President, Product Management, Online Reference (Books) Databases BusinessElsevier Jul 2007 - Sep 2019Amsterdam, North Holland, NlThis was the first of my major transformation successes at Elsevier and it went through many stages. My successful strategy was to create an entirely new client proposition for this very traditional business, rather than “just” digitising existing products and customer propositions as our competitors were. This focus delivered substantial revenue growth driven also by a shift from transactional to subscription model of sales.Selected Achievements:• Over-performed my Board set sales target ($2.7m) by delivering $13m in sales (more than 350% higher) in the first three months post-launch and grew to $60m by 2019, and using my model and strategy, $70m+ today.• Transformed the business inside 18 months by a strategy which prioritised:o Creating buy-in from the whole Division for these radical changes by explaining their need and possibilities. o Assessing which staff had the skills to sell digital content, and making changes as needed. o Focusing on the needs of my B2B market, moving from a transactional to subscription or hybrid model as the client base required. o Swift delivery in the ever-shorter sales window. o A new technical platform which enabled rapid, remote access simultaneously for all users.o A new suite of Go-To-Market sales enablement tools and procedures. • Successfully negotiated new deals and new intellectual property rights with thousands of authors, reshaping royalty payments and providing them with increased online visibility. • Regionalised the Division’s business proposition to meet the cultural preferences of the market. • Managed the project to find, negotiate access to and digitise decades of content held not only by Elsevier but on numerous other sites and archives including UK and US National Archives.• Created AI enabled ‘ScienceDirect Topics’ for the world’s largest STM research information platform, significantly improving discoverability, user engagement and usage. Topics is one of Elsevier’s biggest traffic drivers.
