I am a cultural anthropologist trained in medical anthropology and African studies. My research has focused on how psychiatrists, global health researchers, and international organizations work to create mental healthcare in east Africa. For my dissertation research, I was awarded over $60,000 in grant funding to conduct my research. This has given me experience in managing grant funding, project management, and synthesizing information to present to a range of audiences. I have also taught anthropology at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University. For five years, I have served as a research assistant on a project focused on improving the experiences of underrepresented minority college students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. I have presented and co-authored research on students' experiences of discrimination and mentorship at three conferences and in one peer-reviewed article.
