Assistant Chief Counsel
CurrentThe Office of Chief Counsel provides legal advice and legal representation for matters related to the activities and functions of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The Office of Chief Counsel is responsible for reviewing proposed actions to ensure compliance with legal requirements, preparing formal legal opinions, preparing or reviewing responses in all court actions, civil or criminal, involving CBP. The Office of Assistant Chief Counsel (Training), Advanced Training Center (ATC) attorneys oversee the provision of legal advice and legal training to include constitutional, criminal, operational, customs, immigration, information disclosure, ethics, and labor law. The Office of Assistant Chief Counsel (Training) ATC attorneys also represents CBP in various third-party administrative hearings on employee discipline or adverse actions within the purview of the their training office. The Office of Assistant Chief Counsel (Training) is within the Associate Chief Counsel (Enforcement and Operations), Washington, D.C., and reports to the Deputy Associate Chief Counsel (Training).
