It has been a great joy to work in education since 2006. I have worked with a wide variety of students in the Social Studies classroom and taught subjects including World History, American Government and Student Leadership. In addition to teaching, I have also had the privilege of coaching athletes in men’s and women’s tennis and I have sponsored our school’s student council for over 12 years.While working in education I have also gained a variety of skills and trainings that have improved my abilities to work with all of my students. Colleagues across our district have engaged with in-depth training on equity and inclusion in our building; specifically focusing on unpacking many of the latent barriers that many of our students face. I have also been fortunate to work with a professional learning community that has worked closely with College Board and Advanced Placement. This organization has provided our team with training and resources that have helped us to creat lessons, assessments and experiences to challenge and educate our most advanced students. During my career I have been honored to receive several awards, recognitions and honors. In 2018, I was awarded the Culture of Excellence for Teaching and Honor Cadre by the North Kansas City School District. The following summer, I was selected by AP College Board to speak at the annual Summer Institute in Orlando, Florida. Most recently in 2022, I was honored as the Teacher of the Year by the Gladstone Veterans of Foreign Wars organization.It has been an amazing journey as an educator, I am eager and excited to see where the journey will lead next!
