As a member of Brigade's backend team, Bryan builds and supports systems to power the first-ever social network built for voters. Specifically, the team is responsible for a suite of Ruby microservices and a Rails app behind a Graphql API that is consumed by android, ios and web clients. Additional responsibilities include queuing and messaging systems for communication between services and supporting the data and operations teams when necessary to deliver key metrics, reporting and monitoring throughout the stack.Projects completed include:- Built a new user generated content feature allowing users to share the story behind their activism on a particular campaign- Ported an existing system from a python stack to a ruby microservice implementing the custom framework and skeleton to bring a key product component into better alignment with the rest of the backend services. This involved extensive work with an Elasticsearch DSL and resulted in a cleaner implementation of the system's core business logic. As a senior engineer on the Marketplace Squad, Bryan focuses on backend tooling and internal interfaces for the health, dental and vision insurance products. This ranges from interfaces for data ingestion and normalization to implementations of the business logic required to process insurance applications through hundreds of possible enrollment paths. As one of Finrise's first engineers, Bryan developed the payments and loan servicing system, including integrations with multiple external services such as payment gateways and a just-in-time credit card provider. Bryan also built the support interface used by Customer Support Reps to assist customers with payments and account status. At Pigeonly, Bryan was a software engineer concentrating on back end web systems. This included development and maintenance of the user-facing web applications, written in Python, as well as devops for the overall infrastructure, including database administration (both MySQL and MongoDB), asynchronous tasks in Celery, a custom platform for building conversational SMS interfaces, analytics integrations with multiple services and vendors, an automated inventory management system for VOIP DIDs (phone numbers) and a subscription-based call routing system.Pigeonly builds technology products for those who need it most: underserved populations like inmates and their friends/families. With a suite of products powered by a sophisticated inmate search, called Haystac, we are more than just a service for our users. We are a lifeline, keeping inmates and their families in touch easily and affordably.

Solo web design and development practice building projects for clients in Rails/Ruby, Python (web.py, django), PHP (Wordpress, mostly), and front end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, and javascript frameworks too numerous to count...and I hear ECMA6 is a thing now?). Clients included non-profit organizations, small businesses and a DoD safety and professional services contractor.

Bryan was a Creative Services Specialist focusing on web design and development. In that role, he was responsible for administering current client web projects, creating mobile and web-based apps, creating custom templates, themes and plugins for Nelson\Nygaard and client projects, creating web solutions for new or existing projects (including custom Content Management Systems and frameworks), performing database maintenance tasks, and assisting with the Nelson\Nygaard firm website maintenance and updates.Nelson\Nygaard is an internationally recognized transportation planning firm specializing in transit systems, multi-modal transportation planning, transit oriented development, university campus planning and parking management. With over 100 staff in seven offices across North America, Nelson\Nygaard has one of the largest groups of planners dedicated to non-auto modes.
