I started work at Wellington College in the spring of 1985 as an assistant groundsman. Five years later I was promoted to Head Groundsman. I turned the sports playing fields from a poor standard to what it is now, a place that the pupils feel privileged to play sport.I head a team of 5 groundstaff and am responsible for preparing and maintaining 20 hectares of sports playing fields. These include,14 rugby pitches, 9 football pitches, 2 lacrosse pitches 8 hard porous netball courts during the autumn/winter. In the summer we prepare and maintain 9 cricket squares (84 pitches), 16 grass cricket practice nets, 12 synthetic grass cricket nets, a 400m grass running track and associated field events, 14 hard porous tennis courts, 12 tennis courts on astroturf and 4 rounders pitches.We host touring sides in cricket, rugby and hockey. We held elements of the Women's World Cup Cricket in 1993 and regularly host the ECB Ladies T20 matches.New Zealand All Blacks used Wellington College 1st XV rugby pitch for training during the 1991 World Cup and England used it for training during the 1999 World Cup.Wellington College has hosted the International U16/17 Rugby Festival each Easter since 2010 sponsored by BMW.

Special Constable working mainly in Bracknell Forest area. Frequently providing support for regular officers by working two to three night shifts a week after working my normal hours for my regular daytime job as Head Groundsman for Wellington College.Gained authorisation for independent patrol and also authorisation to drive marked police vehicles.Acted as Section Officer (equivalent of a regular officer Sergeant) several times during SO absence. Dealing with anything from Youth Disorder to protection at murder crime scene, sexual assaults, domestic violence, burglaries and most other areas of police work. Worked on several projects to crack down on youth crime and disorder caused by underage drinking. Took the lead on a project to prevent theft from vehicles in Crowthorne. Involved in initiatives to prevent cross border crimes from neighbouring police force areas working alongside Hampshire and Surrey Constabularies.Regular traffic control duties for carnivals and large events.Involved in Drink Driving campaigns leading to several arrests.Attended the wedding of Prince Edward and Sophie at Windsor Castle for crowd management and the funeral of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon.

Tried my hand at being self employed as a gardener/handyman on Exmoor as commuting to Taunton became impractical. Jobs ranged from looking after private gardens to external painting on Guest Houses and the Simonsbath House Hotel. I also worked as a general house assistant and chauffeur.

Mobile groundsman responsible for primary and secondary school sites within the Taunton area of Somerset maintaining Sports Playing fields and some gardening duties. Later was given the position of static groundsman at Williton Middle School in Somerset where I improved the sports playing surfaces considerably.

Mobile groundsman operating mainly on sports playing fields within the Wokingham area of Berkshire. Responsible for cricket, athletics, football, rugby, hockey and other sports. Some work on shrub borders.

Assisting the Head Groundsman in all aspects of Groundsmanship. Worked mainly on the 1st XI cricket ground then became responsible for 7 lawn tennis courts.
