"People fear that which they do not understand."Even as a young child hearing those words on my favorite animated show, The X-men, rang true. The idea that only through a shared understanding could we honor our unique abilities. As a therapist, I was able to guide folks in breaking down their fears to honor who they were, yet over time realized the problem was societal in nature. Imagine not being understood by those tasked to care about you. That insight led to me to expand my reach by first organizationally developing trainings, then into my community, and most recently into the space of higher education. In my current role(s), I truly feel I have the best of both worlds. Through my own virtual counseling business I can continue to make an impact on an individual level whereas in my roles at Chestnut and AOIC, I have an opportunity to make an impact on a more broader systemic level as a treatment advocate well-versed in Adult Drug Court best practices. Within Chestnut itself, I have particularly enjoyed my work within the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee where I can continue to create shared understandings of marginalized or underrepresented populations.I thrive in creating connections , building coalitions, and advocating for the folks I serve. Public speaking on my passions is second nature to me as I welcome creating a safe, affirming space for the discussion of ideas. Whether it is in public forums, local radio/television, or other venues I am a firm advocate for LGBTQ+ issues, substance use/mental health concerns, and the benefits of problem-solving courts. In my counseling practice, I have recently challenged myself by growing in my knowledge and application of EMDR therapy and hope to be certified by the end of this year. If you share my passion for any of those subjects or how they intersect, please do not hesitate to reach out. I truly believe my own understanding can only grow by continuing to push and challenge my own
