Backup Engineer

Auckland, New Zealand

I was employed as a Backup EngineerMy daily duties were to maintain the numerous comcellls and media agents on a daily basis, clients also had Symantec Products as well. The role also required after hours work and being on call for a week. I had to ensure that all backups were scheduled for back, installation of new clients into the system. These would range from the installation and configuring agents on, File IDA, Share point, Sequel Servers, Exchange Databases, Unix and Linux agents and Informix agents. By Analysing the log files of the servers, we were able to trouble shoot the problem and provide a root cause.New backup reports were generated and emailed to the clients daily. Multiple Storage Policies were created per media agent. If there were any issues with backup, the client was always kept up to date with server that had failed the backup and Incidents were created to track the progress per server and trouble shoot as to why the server had not backed up correctly.I maintained all of the media management, ejecting all full media, recalling all scratch media, ordering of new media with the use and configuration of vault.Managing the clients restores. This either involved a Full DR test of server, application DR’s or just file restoration. All were completed to the best service. We upgraded from CommVault version 9 and v10. Had to ensure that all servers hosts and peers were updated accordingly for CV9 requirements.

Ordering aircraft parts and booking them out to the aircraft. I was required to create Orders to either purchase or repairs and drive them to the required vendor. I was required to create box crates to send larger parts overseas. Stock control was paramount; every 6 months was a stock take. Forklift work was required for larger parts, water methanol drums and gas cyclinders. Managing the tool store and issuing them out to the engineer and aircraft accordingly. Aircraft could not leave without all tools were returned to the tool store. Tools were calibrated regularly with vendors. Tools were often sent to Australia.
