My work is focused on individuals experiencing chronic homelessness and poor mental health, helping them to stabilize mentally, physically, spiritually and to find housing, community, and a sense of belonging. I am an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) with the Association of Professional Chaplains. Prior to entering ministry, I was a journalist and author. I covered war in central and east Africa, immigration along the Texas/Mexico border, poverty and addiction here at home, and the intersection of faith and politics in the modern MAGA era. I am the author of four books, one of which, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (written with William Kamkwamba), was a New York Times bestseller and later turned into a film. My last book, The Kings of Big Spring, chronicled my family's 100-year saga in the West Texas oil fields.
