About Bryan Perry

I am an experienced attorney and former state and federal court litigator that has spent the past 15 years helping universities and governing boards adapt & flourish in a constantly changing legal environment. My core values and the guiding principles of my legal practice are grounded in equity and access for historically underrepresented groups. An accomplished general counsel and executive leader, I have demonstrated experience providing strategic legal advice to governing boards, presidents/ceos, and senior administrators on applicable laws, regulations, litigation, and organizational risks. In 2021, I was asked to serve as my organization’s chief labor strategist to help integrate an overall labor management strategy for a complex employment environment consisting of 17 unions, tenured faculty, at-will employees, and other employment classifications. I am a dynamic and visionary leader responsible for leading and managing a team of 15 lawyers and administrative professionals who serve in the Office of General Counsel, Employee and Labor Relations, and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Office. Professionally, I have the pleasure of serving as the 2022-2023 Chair of the 6,000-member Employment & Labor Law Network of the Association of Corporate Counsel and have been recognized by my peers for inclusion into the National Black Lawyers list of Top 100 Lawyers for the last two years in a row.I am a passionate advocate and supporter of the arts, and artists from historically underrepresented groups. In addition to serving on several museum committees, my proudest accomplishment is serving as President of the Board of Directors for the Southside Community Art Center. At 80 years old, the SSCAC is the oldest African American art center in the United States and is a Chicago Historic Landmark. I also serve on the boards of Just The Beginning, a legal pipeline organization, where I chair the governance committee, and Ready At Five, where I serve as co-chair of the nominating and governance committee.
