My undergraduate and graduate degrees are in civil engineering. These years instilled in me engineering skills, as well as skills like problem solving, creating efficient systems, and optimizing them. These skills transcend engineering and can be applied to anything in life. As I went on to coaching lacrosse, these skills helped me excel, solve and optimize new problems I faced. I developed strategies and systems that make the team run as efficiently as possible. The defense which I coordinated was a perennial top ranked defense in the country. These systems and problems are solved with communicating with people and made up of people, rather than algorithms. My coaching experience taught me how to effectively lead people, how to influence people with a wide variety of personalities and abilities. I taught my team the countless details that make up the systems so they could go out and perform them on their own. This process came to fruition when my team went to our first ever national championship in 2017. Though these experiences, and high-pressure situations, I learned how to lead and how leadership is an integral part of any team. It is difference between success and failure.
