Utilities Process Lead
In this position, I provide operational and technical supervision for the Powerhouse and implement process improvement and capital projects. Powerhouse operations include:- Steam and gas turbine electrical generation- High voltage electrical distribution, including an on-site 138 kV substation- 600/150/5 psi steam distribution- City, well, and canal water treatment and distribution- Reverse Osmosis and Ion Exchange water treatment- Compressed air generation and distributionI oversee daily operations, interacting with 10 powerhouse operators in a 24/7/365 manufacturing environment. I have worked with operations to perform a plant steam outage, turbine generator shutdowns and startups, and an entire plant startup from an electrical blackout.Additionally, I have been the lead engineer and project manager on process improvement and capital projects, including:- Installation of new controllers on the air compressors, improving reliability and increasing efficiency- Optimization of water treatment ion exchange units, reducing chemical usage at the plant- Increased throughput of Reverse Osmosis units, reducing need for city water intakeIn April 2015, I received my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification by completing the optimization of the water treatment ion exchange units.
Utilities Process Engineer
In September 2011, I was promoted to the Utilities Process Engineer position from the Utilities Operations Manager. In this position, I served as the plant's expert in Utility systems and worked on a variety of improvement projects, including:- Reduction of plant steam header pressure, reducing fuel load and steam losses- Re-piping of heat exchangers to increase heat recovery, reducing plant steam load- Re-programming of CO2 compressor sequencing, reducing the plant electrical load- Installation of measurement systems and programming on clean-in-place (CIP) lines, reducing plant water usageAdditionally, I was responsible for several Safety and Environmental programs at the plant:- OSHA Process Safety Management Coordinator (OSHA 1910.119)/EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP). I worked to ensure compliance with all PSM standards. I received certification from the Garden City Ammonia Program, receiving an exemplary score on my certification test. During my tenure, the plant successfully passed a compliance audit and no accidents or injuries occurred.- Arc Flash (NFPA 70E): I coordinated the Arc Flash study for the plant, had the hazard labels applied to all applicable equipment, and trained salaried and hourly employees on the arc flash rules and regulations.- HAZMAT/Confined Space: I received initial and annual certification in these areas, including Incident Commander training.I coordinated annual maintenance on our medium voltage (13.8 kV, 4160 V) busses to ensure the equipment was in proper working order. I worked with the operating departments to plan outages when required, planned and switched electrical feeds to ensure maintenance did not affect plant operation, and lead 8-10 electricians and Utilities operators to perform the work safely and on schedule.Finally, I was responsible for tracking and forecasting the energy and fluids budget for the plant, and improving energy usage and efficiency. While in this position, the plant improved each year.
Utilities Operations Manager
I managed 12 Utilities Operators (stationary engineers) and 8 Maintenance Technicians in a 3-shift per day, 7 day per week manufacturing environment in the Fort Collins, CO brewery. I worked for the Utilities Department, which included overseeing the operation and maintenance of the following systems: - Anhydrous Ammonia (NH3) Refrigeration (largest in Colorado)- Steam Generation- Compressed Air- Water Filtration, Distribution, and Reclamation- Waste Water- Ethanol Distillation- CO2 Collection and Distribution- Medium Voltage (13.8 kV, 4160 V) Electrical DistributionI worked with the operators, techs, and salaried staff to ensure compliance with regulatory environmental (boiler emissions - RATA and CGA, NH3 emissions, Title V permitting) and safety (OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), Confined Space, HAZMAT, boiler inspections) requirements.In November 2011, I coordinated a successful plant steam shutdown during the Thanksgiving Holiday. Coordination required setting timelines for the operating departments to shut down, holding regular meetings, and executing maintenance on the steam system that only occurs once per year.

I worked for the Supply Chain Department, managing beer shipment schedules, inventory, and material loading and unloading. I also supervised palletizer operators, rail car and truck loading operators, and managed compliance with safety and environmental regulations.In May 2010, I cross-trained in the Logistics Department as a Planner to update production schedules, schedule incoming packaging materials, manage brewery and wholesaler inventories, view and update future orders, and correct inventory and financial discrepancies.In June 2010, I assisted in the implementation of Voyager Plant Optimization (VPO) for the Business Operations Department, a company-wide program designed to improve company costs and efficiency.
