Worked as a Systems Engineer for a media company developing 3D models of various products including product breakouts, floor plans, interior design simulations, animations, and more. A unique environment that required the use of many uncommon tools for a Systems Engineer role, the work included the management of an on-site rendering farm for end users utilizing 3DS Max and V-Ray. The role included the cleanup and stabilization of the physical environment. This entailed re-imagining the power needs for the environment and distribution of power loads across multiple connections to alleviate overloaded circuits, the replacement and life cycling of batteries within the environment, and establishing multiple battery-backed redundant power connections to core switches, firewalls, and Hyper-V hosts. HVAC was also addressed at this time to solve heat issues due to rendering.Later, the cleanup of the Active Directory environment saw the removal of a number of accounts and permissions and the establishment of policies for account management and removal. This moved into an audit of GPOs within the AD environment and the removal of a number of old policies that were no longer needed. Stabilization of backup services and policies came after this, which included establishing priority and hierarchy within the environment to withstand hardware failures and in the case of these failures, continue to operate uninterrupted. Veeam and ZFS provided a cost-effective way of maintaining the integrity of these backups to provide peace of mind. Finally, cost analysis and performance tuning had been done on the Azure environment within the company including the removal of a handful of assets, saving the company nearly $30k annually.
