My main task is to exceed the budgeted productivity. Everything I do, every task I assign, is done with respect to exceeding the budget. There is negative work and positive work. Positive work is when something that can be sold is produced, while negative work produces nothing that can be sold. Examples of negative work are sweeping, dumping trash, lift truck maintenance, unloading trucks and organizing. Examples of positive work are making bales and capsacks. My job requires an understanding of negative and positive work.

My job in the role of night manager/bartender was to simultaneously work in the restaurant while paying attention to catered events. I was waiting on tables, running the bar, helping the catered events, and keeping everyone happy. I was also the close-out and had to make sure all the events for the next day were ready, in addition to making sure the glassware, utensils and plates were cleaned and organized every night. I was responsible for closing out the cash register every night, putting the money in the safe, doing alcohol inventory, as well as locking up the building.

I was a package handler, working from 2:30 AM to 7:30 AM. I was there when the company changed their name from RPS to FedEx Ground. I got to observe all the branding changes, as well the new decals on the trucks. My job was to load trucks, taking packages off the moving belt, selecting the correct truck, and then selecting the correct location in the truck. Each truck had a corresponding loading chart hanging above the belt. The loading charts were not very useful and I made my own, which resulted in numerous compliments from the drivers. Eventually, I was moved to the position of "splitter", which was still handling packages, except I would also have to know the zip codes for all the trucks on a belt, since I would have to put every box on the correct side of the belt.

My job was to work catered events, either at the main building or off-site. If we were at the main building, set-up and clean-up was fast. If we were off site, it took a bit more time, as we had to load the van, drive to the location, unload the van, set-up, then reload and unload again after the event was finished. I was also taking college classes during this time period.

This was my second summer job, which I also held while in high school. I started out in the concession stand, but was quickly moved to head usher, where I was responsible for tearing tickets, dealing with complaints. and keeping the theaters clean between showings.
