My parents taught me from a young age to do good, and I hope to live up to that ideal in whatever I do. Coming from a family of scientists, I hope to harness the power of STEM to make a difference in the lives of others, specifically in the education, healthcare and environment sectors. Back in Singapore I started Operation Einstein, an organization aimed at bringing a unique form of scientific education to students from underprivileged backgrounds. We created educational programs that took students away from the exam-oriented environment, allowing them to develop creativity, critical thinking and the ability to learn how to learn. Since 2017, it has gone on to impact the lives of more than 1000 students in Singapore.I was trained in Physics back in high school, embarking on research in material science and solid state physics. Coming to college, I wanted to try Mechanical Engineering to gain a broader skillset applicable to the healthcare industry. That was where I discovered my love for hardware design for assistive technologies, designing products for the disabled community is an intellectual and meaningful endeavor that is close to my heart. I also discovered the great potential that data analytics and artificial intelligence have for the medical field. That prompted my switch to EECS and Data Science, where I learnt about how algorithms were being deployed for diagnostics and patient risk assessment. Seeing the potency of data and AI in the near future, I wanted to improve my skillset, embarking on a research project to quantify carbon emitted in ecosystems using machine learning techniques. That prompted my exploration on the applications of ML into the alternative protein, carbon credit and adjacent environment sectors, where I see that there will be numerous advancements happening in these fields in the near future and I am very excited to be part of these endeavors.
