I passed my nursing boards on September 11, 2014. An easy day to remember. I worked in med-surg for about a year and a half and picked up shifts on every unit I could. From general med-surg, ortho, oncology, stroke, and post-op. After leaving United Regional, I went to Texas Health Arlington Memorial where I started in the ER. That is where I learned to be inquisitive and ask the important question "Why?" I did not feel like I was able to develop much of a relationship with my patients so I moved back to the inpatient side of things on a cardiac telemetry unit. After excelling there for a little over a year, I moved to the ICU. After many conversations with my wife, I decided to move to a hospital closer to where we live. After taking a job in the PCU at Medical City Alliance, I was quickly promoted to charge nurse. While the responsibilities of being charge nurse created a new welcomes set of challenges, I realized I still had a yearning for critical care. When a dayshift position opened up at Wise Regional in the CCU, I decided to take the position. Recently, I have completed all the required contact hours for a certification in pain management nursing. My next certification will be the CCRN. My long-term goal is and has been to become a CRNA.
