About Bryan Daniels

I am a software engineer with 23 years experience who enjoys developing software. I find it a fun challenge almost like a puzzle or riddle. I have 16 years experience in .NET primarily using C# and WPF with some winforms. Other technologies I know or familiar with are Git, Perforce, Star Team, VBScript, Javascript, Delphi, EF, and SQL. My previous job experiences have me working with medical devices for drug discovery companies and call center software.I am not interested in hearing about random job opportunities at this time. If you decide to message me anyway, start your message with “I love autobots”. If you don’t, you’ve clearly not read my profile, so then how can you know “I’m the perfect fit” like the dozens of others that message me….

I was part of the Workforce management group. The Optimizer software scheduled agents in a call center as efficiently as possible, while meeting the demands on incoming calls. The work was in .NET, C# using WPF as the UI. I gained experience working with SQL with both SQL Server and Oracle. We paid close attention to localization for our UI's as we supported various cultures, including RTL cultures.I acted as a mentor to those unfamiliar with Git source control, while we transitioned away from Perforce as I had experience using it from Beckman Coulter.

For 10 years I works in the Integrated Solutions group creating custom software for our standard products. I worked on 70+ custom integrations ranging from a couple of weeks to several months. Most of these projects involved 3rd party hardware/software using COM, .NET, serial, memory pipes, USB, and more. We mostly used Delphi, C#, VBScript, C++ and Wise for these integrations. For 3 years, I worked on the Biomek 4.0 project, an automated liquid handler, designed for flexible use in laboratories. Version 4.0 fixed many bugs, added new features, and was upgraded to work on Windows 7 x64. The original software team included experienced software engineers, but not experienced on the Biomek platform. I was hand selected by the software lead to mentor the software team, because of my experience working with Biomek during my time in Integrated Solutions. One requirement of Biomek 4.0 included a revamp of the Wash Tool, a hardware add-on that allowed bulk dispensing of reagents and fast vacuuming to waste. I used an internal person as my representative customer to gather requirements for the new Wash Tool. She was happy with the results and added flexibility. For the last internal version of the software, I acted as interim software lead, taking over the responsibilities as the software lead prepared for version 4.1 of the Biomek software. For one year, I worked on rewriting the SPRI wizard software that works within the Biomek software. SPRI (solid-phase reversible immobilization) is a system of using chemicals and special magnetic beads to extract specific strands of DNA and RNA from a given sample. The previous version of software was written in VB6. I rewrote the software using C#/WPF. I advocated for extra time to create the new version in a base/plug-in system to allow for faster integration of a new SPRI chemistry. I estimated that this should decrease the time of a new integration by about 60%.
