Senior Scientist

Menlo Park, Ca

Sep 2019 - Dec 2020

Research Associate (Contract)

Marine Microverse Institute

I use NextGen sequencing and bioinformatics pipelines to discover genetic markers distinguishing 3 easily mislabeled groundfish species. I have developed qPCR assays to determine genotypes at these markers to identify the species of unknown fish samples

2018 - Dec 2020

Post-Doctoral Researcher

Uc Davis

Davis

I use sequencing technologies at a variety of data-depths (whole-genome/transcriptome sequencing, Fluidigm Biomark Dynamic Arrays, and targeted qPCR), as well as environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques, to examine the patterns of salmonid pathogen presence/absence in the Sacramento/San Joaquin River Delta system, as well as understand the host (Chinook salmon) genomic response to infection.

2017 - Aug 2019

Phd Graduate Student

Hopkins Marine Station, Pacific Grove

My dissertation focused on small-scale patterns of natural selection in the rocky intertidal zone, kelp forest canopy, and a commercial fish species. I used transcriptomic analysis to examine both gene expression differences and structural DNA differences in gene sequences (single nucleotide polymorphisms, SNPs) at sub-meter scales in the California mussel (Mytilus californianus), whole-genome resequencing to understand patterns of population differentiation and the genic content of chromosomal inversions (possible 'supergenes') within Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) in the Gulf of Maine, and DNA metabarcoding to look at depth and distance related changes in the benthic macro-/microinvertebrate settlement communities under kelp forest canopies in Monterey Bay, CA.
