Program facilitation and instruction of the Smart Mobility Challenge and the TennSMART Mentor Network.The Smart Mobility Challenge is an entrepreneurship-based competition organized by TennSMART with support from LaunchTN and regional Entrepreneurship Resource Centers.This startup accelerator program facilitates technology transfer from the research institution to the market. Over 10 weeks, we work with real intellectual property, supplied by our research partners, to form mock companies with real founders to build an investable business opportunity. The program takes place bi-annually and offers university students, postdoctoral fellows from Tennessee's premier research institutions, and founders from the public, entrepreneurship education in the commercialization of technology.

Program facilitation and instruction of the Scipreneur Challenge.The Scipreneur Challenge is a 10-week entrepreneurship-based competition sponsored by BioTN’s Academic Alliance. The competition is held annually in collaboration with the state’s leading academic and research institutions. Through Scipreneur, undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, and research staff are placed in teams and assigned a technology from one of the state's premier research institutions.Teams create a business plan around the technology by researching the market, developing a plan for commercialization, and, finally, making a pitch for mock investment.

TEAM TN (https://teamtn.org/) is a partnership with the National Science Foundation and is an alliance of academics, industry, and technical societies, led by The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. TEAM TN seeks to place Tennessee in the vanguard of transportation electrification and digitization while reducing reliance on carbon-intensive energy sources, mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, and creating a more equitable transportation system. TEAM TN will create a self-sustaining innovation ecosystem where advanced industries and Tennessee communities thrive and will include a large and diverse array of innovation assets.

With a group of private and public strategic partners, the 800 Initiative was launched in 2018 to support the growth and sustainability opportunities for minority-owned businesses in the Memphis and surrounding area. Of this group, we have a particular focus on black-owned businesses that experience the largest disparity in revenue and opportunities compared to white-owned firms.With access to entrepreneurial programs and education, domain experts, and personnel resources along with access to capital funding for scaling opportunities, firms that are accepted and participate in the 800 Initiative will have a significantly greater chance for success and growth.The primary partners and the providers of these valuable services and resources are the City of Memphis, Shelby County, Christian Brothers University, Epicenter, Start Co, and FedEx.
