My introduction to design came much earlier than most would suspect: I was about 6 years old. This is when I “invented” my first two products: a hover board, and a fire-breathing wind-up dragon toy. During this profoundly creative outburst, I had also laid claim to the idea (what would later become my careers raison d’être) that I was to be an “inventor” when I grew up.Fast-forward to present day; while no levitation or fire-breathing products are currently in the works, I am about to launch my fourth line of products in as many years. As creative direction, strategy, and design lead for each of the respective lines, I have learned the ‘know-hows’ in effectively "inventing" an idea. The ‘know-whys’ on the other hand, arguably the more seductive of the two, are much more elusive to the untrained eye; which is where I come in. This is how I get to the whys, and probably the reason I’ve managed to conceive, design, and launch each line with great success:- Empathy: for users, customers, and collaborators- Treating each project like it’s a startup: lean methods, build-measure learn- A businesses problems are often its greatest opportunity, I prefer to run to them instead of running away- I gain insights through observation, then turn those insights into commercial solutions- I believe in the power of experience- Scare myself at least once per project with a crazy proposal- I’m an adult, but certified to ask why as much as a kid...and I do.- I don’t follow a design philosophy, I listen to everyone else’s, especially when they cannot articulate itIf you need help knowing how, or if you want to know why and commercialize it, let’s connect!
