Key functions included:• Coordination and writing of Manchester’s and Greater Manchester’s climate change strategies, with additional work on local delivery plans• Bid-writing, commissioning, and project management of a range of research and engagement projects• Liaison and partnership building with officers from central government, other local authorities, and partner organisations • Development and maintenance of timely reporting and performance monitoring systems, chiefly, the direct management and interrogation of the organisation’s CO2 emissions data reporting• Development and delivery of a range of regular, written and presentated, communications to senior officers, staff members, and external partners• Handling of procurement and commissioning of external agencies

Monitoring business activities for legislative compliance with UK environmental regulation, and running pollution prevention advice sessions• Writing of waste management permits and risk assessments• Handling incident management; safe response to emergency situations, liaising with and influencing emergency services and partner organisations• Taking enforcement action, investigation and evidence gathering, environmental sampling, and providing evidence in court

Highlands

Led a programme of residential conservation projects in various locations in the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

• Design and co-ordination of habitat surveys to Phase 1 and NVC standards• Training and management of volunteer survey teams and equipment• Liaison with landowners and government bodies, including writing of funding bids
