As Director of Innovation, I was the lead advocate for modern learning at my institution. I conducted research to mine the collective wisdom and best practices of effective educators around the world and incorporated my findings into proposals and programs that directly affected the daily learning environment for students. From helping faculty integrate the modern information landscape into their courses, to encouraging students to discover the power of their passions when connected with an engaged online community, I am proud that my work - in concert with my peers - made real improvements in education every day.My work and research in the use of technology in education brought me to the inevitable paradigm-shifting questions about the purpose and execution of "how" school is done today. Working with leading educators around the world and in tandem with the leadership of my own school here in Dayton, OH, we developed this position of "Director of Innovation" to ensure that there would be a local advocate for the inquiry and research necessary to help education remain relevant today. This role was in addition to the Director of Technology position.

As Director of Technology, my primary goal was to bring engaging tools for research and academic collaboration to colleagues and students in the most productive and consistent manner possible. My expertise in technology, design, teaching (25 years classroom experience), and teachers was put to good use daily as I designed and implemented diverse technologies in a vibrant and dynamic environment. I also worked with all involved to advocate for how to use these tools to further educational progress.Throughout many years in technology and education, I had the great opportunity to learn so much, including skills like network planning and security, RF (wifi) analysis, data security and liability, vendor relations, and customer-centric support approaches, along with multiple educational theories, assessment techniques, collaborative design and problem finding techniques, and so much more.

In the classroom, my goal is to instill in my students a sense of wonder for, respect toward, and eagerness to participate in their world. The use of my subject areas to introduce students to concepts of causes and effects - global to personal - helps students identify their agency over the forces at play in their own lives and in their near futures. Every few years I lead student trips to Rome, Italy (and environs), with focus mainly on the growth of that ancient city and the spread of it inhabitants.
