In his position as Public Policy Analyst, Bryan’s work includes conducting research on a wide range of state policy approaches to issues being considered by the CPO, and supports the work of the Mandatory Reporting Task Force and the Timothy Montoya Task Force to Prevent Youth from Running from Out-of-Home Placement.

As a Policy Analyst at ECS, I tracked legislation throughout the states, answered information requests from policymakers, presented and testified on education policy trends, and worked on a wide range of education policy projects. At the heart of my work were questions of equity and access for student groups experiencing opportunity gaps. As examples, I worked on projects related to school integration policies, discipline disparities, student health and wellness, and student broadband access issues. Since 2015, BJC has offered the BJC Fellows Program, providing young professionals the opportunity to deepen their historical, theological and legal understanding of religious liberty and develop skills to advocate for the cause throughout their careers. BJC Fellows come from diverse educational, professional and religious backgrounds to learn in an intensive education program that equips them for advocacy to protect religious liberty. Culminates in week-long seminar in August.

As a Colorado Education Policy Fellow, I will be meeting regularly with the other 9 Colorado fellows for seminars and workshops on education policy, and will attend a week-long conference in DC with all state program fellows in the spring of 2020.

I also provide administrative assistance to Dr. Hoelzl including proofreading articles, arranging department events, and assisting in funding applications

As a Policy Associate in the health policy program at the National Conference of State Legislatures, I answered information requests from state legislators and legislative staff on a range of topics; took a lead role on the creation of concise and objective written materials; organized and conducted public health policy research meetings; and monitored state and national policy developments across a range of issues including maternal and child health, women's health and children's oral health. The National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan organization serving legislators and staff of the nation's 50 states, commonwealths and territories.

As a Research Analyst II in the health program at the National Conference of State Legislatures, I answered information requests from state legislators and legislative staff; created concise and objective written materials; helped coordinate meetings; and monitored policy developments across a range of issues including maternal and child health, women's health and children's oral health. As a Research Assistant at AcademyHealth, I worked with the Public Health Systems Research (PHSR) program and with delivery systems programs such as Health IT For Actionable Knowledge. My main responsibilities included supporting grant writing and development efforts, drafting research and policy syntheses, and working with the PHSR Interest Group.

As a Public Interest Fellow at the National Conference of State Legislatures, I provided administrative assistance to staff and contributed research, organisation and writing for the Affordable Care Act: State Action Newsletter on public service reform. I also updated website content, wrote LegisBrief research materials, and drafted other briefs and papers on topics such as clinical preventive services and health policy developments.

As a Research Assistant in the Religion Department at Colorado College, I worked with Dr. Tracy Coleman to gather and organise resources for the professor’s contributions to Oxford Bibliographies Online: Hinduism. I also created PowerPoint presentations, identified key readings, and prepared materials for use in Dr. Coleman’s undergraduate courses.

As a Computer Lab Supervisor, I maintained and developed high level information technology skills and literacy. In this position, I supervised both general computer labs and a specialized computer lab dedicated to geographic software. In the labs, I provided technical and administrative support for faculty and students through information technology available in computer labs.

As a Constituent Relations Intern at Senator Ben Nelson's Washington, D.C. office, I provided administrative assistance for maintenance of the office. I also tracked legislation, researched and wrote briefs on current events for the senator’s legislative assistants. My responsibilities also included processing, recording and responding to constituent concerns via mail, email and phone. This work required a broad knowledge of the senator’s positions, particularly on health policy.

As a Constituent Relations Administrative Intern for Nebraskan Attorney General Jon Burning, I tracked, indexed, copied and organized media coverage of legislation and stories concerning the Attorney General in a large number of publications. My responsibilities also included assisting in preparing and conducting the Attorney General’s conference on child internet safety. I also provided administrative assistance and support for Constituent Relations staff.
