As a wee-lad, I always kept busy and worked hard...throwing newspapers on my BMX, mowing lawns and pressure washing, and even working at a funeral home. At 15, I began assisting a neighbor with fire, water and mold remediation/restoration. At 17, I made the move to the residential custom homes as I had always dreamed of being a custom home architect. While at Texas A&M, I held a few jobs, but my favorite was working for Ellis Custom Homes. I was fortunate to manage the construction of A&M’s new football coach in 2003. During this time, I decided that I wanted to pursue the construction and development, vs design. I transferred to Construction Science, graduating in 2006. After graduation, I chose to work for The Hanover Company. I had the opportunity to be the first and last person on a luxury garden apartment project located in Charlotte, NC. I very much value this experience, being able to see the entire life cycle of a project so soon in my career. The plan was to work on a couple of projects, then transition to the development side. However, in August of 2009, I finished the project, the same week my son was born. Unfortunately, like so many others in our industry during 2019, there was nowhere for me to go. Therefore, I was blessed to be a stay at home dad for 5 months! In December of 2009, I began working for Marand Builders, managing ground up branch banks, interior upfits and branding conversions for Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Fifth Third and PNC. I was an instrumental member of the company facilitating growth with these clients and entering new markets as their partner. While with Marand, we grew from 15 to 64 employees and increased revenues from $15 to $28 million.I was excited about my opportunities with Marand, but I wanted to get back to luxury apartment construction. In March of 2012, I had that opportunity and made the move to work with CF Evans, a leader in the region’s multifamily construction industry. During my short time there, I had the privilege to work on two projects for Woodfield Development, Whitehall Parc and Silos. Summer of 2013, Childress Klein, a commercial real-estate development company, called looking for an owner representative and project manager for their new multifamily division. I have now been here for 7+ years. As a Senior Project Manager for Childress Klein, I assist our Multifamily and Retail development partners in all aspects of due diligence, manage the design, construction and turnover of projects with development budgets ranging from about $40M to $185M.
