Software Engineer

Boise, Idaho, Us

Micron Technology is a leader of cost-reduction in the semiconductor industry emphasizing market dominating volume of commodity NAND and DRAM electronics. It operates in a sector where aggressive competition in cost and massive scales of data management are the norm.At Micron, I took responsibility for the implementation of the automatic systems for material grading and customer routing at the end of the factory on critical parts. I leveraged my experience with factory automation around the world to identify and correct systematic issues causing inconsistent grading, work stoppages, and incorrect shipping. I was able to implement software best practices to immediately improve system maintenance as well as create a roadmap for steady improvements on a legacy framework. Code reviews and testing were a core responsibility, but I saw the need and developed an environment to enable automated test of various customer demand scenarios.I also was given responsibility for the presentation of the key metrics to the entire site. This involved collaboration across the factory and utilizing expertise in data extraction, analysis, and presentation. I worked with teams to implement OSHA standard measurements, access SAP, model projections, and track training. As well as serving as an expert in SQL, Excel, and business processes, I developed a road map for the system using web services, MS Analysis Services, and SharePoint Business Intelligence tools for dashboarding. I served on a team to deploy these tools internationally.

Jul 2010 - Jul 2013

Product Manager

Sunnyvale, California, Us

Knights Technology, currently a part of Synopsys, provides software tools to semiconductor manufacturers that help determine the root cause of yield loss. This is primarily done through a client-server database application that tracks and analyzes process and test information. As Product Manager for the Yield Management product I directly worked with customers at factories throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia to capture business requirements, then guided an internal development team in India through software product releases.I identified new lines of business in leveraging ‘app-based’ software and initiated a business partnership with a statistics software company. Together we prototyped a solution providing immediate value for a customer joining advanced statistics with data management. The product provided the ability to create data mining, SPC, and neural network ‘apps’ together with managed data access functions from our existing system.I also designed and prototyped a Yield Impact System that recursively analyzed test results against specific process drivers, statistically grouping the drivers according to the characteristics that had an ‘impact’ on the product. While not formally Scrum, this was an example of the positive results of iterative software management. The prototype delivered huge value add and iterative releases added functionality to increase the breath of information analyzed, adjust material sampling, and actually adapt manufacturing via holds and tool selection.I was a direct employee of Knights through late 2008, and continued on as a contractor until mid-2012.

Jul 2001 - May 2012

Parametric / Software Engineer

London, Gb

The Semiconductor Technology Center, (Lockheed Martin below) was acquired by BAE Systems. I was a direct employee through July 2001, and maintained a role as a vendor or contractor through May 2012.

Jan 2001 - May 2012

Parametric Engineer

Bethesda, Md, Us

The Semiconductor Technology Center, a part of Lockheed Martin, manufactured radiation hardened electronics for space and weapons systems. My role was to evaluate device characteristics using principles of semiconductor physics to diagnose manufacturing variations and issues. This work was consistent with my graduate research and I completed a Masters degree in this time frame.I expanded my role into software development and built new systems to manage process and test data for product grading, quality control, and root cause analysis. This software work segued into my roles later in software development after I built custom extensions to vendor solutions using Excel and Perl programming.
