A significant portion of my work at MSDGC was dedicated to the continual build-out, calibration and validation of MSD's collection system hydraulic models. Conceptually, the collection system models provide a great representation of "what happens" within the collection system when it rains over the City of Cincinnati. Using Python 2.7 programming language, I developed a handful of tools outfitted with chic user interfaces that helped to optimize data management systems at MSDGC including (but not limited to): GIS to model automation (Model Build-Out Program), tools to conduct model validations, data stacking / managing, odd-shaped conduit step functions, and many more...

My M.S. Research at UC involved a comprehensive study on the efficacy of fine bubble aeration systems within distribution system tanks used to reduce trihalomethane (THM) concentrations. Since THM regulation has become more stringent in Stage II Disinfection By-Product Rule, utilities are looking for current best available technologies to economically reach safe water. The research involved three phases: 1) laboratory studies to understand and model THM mass transport rates from the liquid phase to the gas phase under three separate aeration conditions, 2) application of the model to a partner utility's 40 MG distribution system aerated tank and 3) an assessment of system-wide THM reduction using our partner utility's distribution system model using EPANET-multi species extension (MSX). Results suggested that the THM reduction enabled our utility to meet regulations throughout the network.

At MTC I supported our SMART sensor research group which focused on bridge structural health. The objective was to provide REAL TIME information on bridge health via a wireless sensor network. A pilot test was conducted using a structural steel bridge where strain gauges were installed at strategic points. Once complete, bridge health could be monitored any time remotely through a public website.
