In my role of Staff Engineer I have continued to develop my communication and P&C skillset while focusing on involvement on Distribution Modernization programs, learning system modelling and analysis. I have focused on the practical and technical impacts of rooftop solar, paired storage, vehicle electrification, and utility policy surrounding these revolutionary installations.Summary of Notable Projects:EV Adoption Study (Fall 2019 to Spring 2020)Modelled a representative set of system distribution circuits to assess the infrastructure risk of EV installations for each customer type and use case on DTE’s distribution system. Analyzed installation locations and projected loads to project changes in annual load profiles, common points of failure, and cost-effective preventative infrastructure upgrades. Curated results for presentation to several client groups with varying financial and technical interests.Integrated Capacity Analysis (Summer 2017 to Summer 2018)Orchestrated a nodal analysis of the SCE distribution service territory to determine the maximum load and generation hosting capacity at all points on the distribution system. Considered several limiting factors and worked to identify annual and monthly max and minimum values. Utilized Python and VBA scripts to automate analysis allowing for the batch processing of over 4000 circuits on schedule.Net Energy Metering (Summer 2018 to Spring 2019)Led a team of engineers in evaluating the safety and compliance with utility standards of distributed generation projects up to 1MW. Streamlined client processes to eliminate late responses to project applicants and applied knowledge to multiple tariffs and facility metering schemes while processing over 100 NEM customer applications per month.

Project experience includes designing SCADA system upgrades and configuring communications equipment. For the First Energy TREP upgrades I designed and and supported installation of upgraded SCADA and Comm systems for several substations of various sizes. I have also worded with RTU points lists and configured the following comm equipment for XCEL energy substation projects: SEL-2020, SEL-2032, SEL-RTAC (SEL-3530), SEL-2730M, Ruggedcom RX1500, Ruggedcom RX1501, and Checkpointe CP1200R.Additionally, I have worked with several vendors and manufacturers of substation and other utility equipment to develop an in-office lab to demo equipment functionality and configurations.

I have worked on Substation design and upgrade projects at 4.3, 12.47, 13.8, 69, 115, 230, and 345kV levels. I have identified various substation equipment for the creation of smart one lines being developed for NERC compliance in bulk electric system documentation. I also have developed a relaying and control package for a three yard, greenfield breaker-and-a-half station, checked construction bill of materials, generated cable schedules and control points lists, developed panel replacement packages, created conduit plans including conduit sizing and created engineering estimates. Additionally, I have worked with a control system upgrade of a 250 MW twin turbine coal fired power plant including a week long site visit. As an intern, I was also responsible for organizing a variety of recreational and volunteer activities for other interns and full time employees.
