About Bryan Yavari

Hello! I am Bryan and I am extremely interested in conducting research across different fields. My work in the Engineering Projects in Community Service program has allowed me to combine my engineering background and leadership skills to lead Project Koyash. Through founding the Nonprofit Corporation, I have been able to work with the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IEEE to implement our award winning fully autonomous, off the gird air purification system. Moreover, being the Student Supervisor for the entire program has allowed me provide personable feedback to different teams. In addition to this role, I hold research in other fields such as cancer. I have broad healthcare clinical experience in Family Medicine, Refugee Care, Cardiology, Hospice Care, and Addiction Recovery.I am a motivated student, learner, and researcher who is currently applying to medical school.     I am the Research Coordinator of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Public Response translational team at the College of Health Solutions, ASU.I am working with Emergency Medicine Physicians Dr. David Sklar, MD, and Dr. Frank Lovecchio, DO, MPH, as well as Associate Dean of Research Dr. Matthew Scotch, PhD, to coordinate and lead various research projects. These projects include heat stroke prevention and treatment during responses by first responders and in the Emergency Room, as well as the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and bird flu. This role is improving my ability to lead research teams and projects. Currently, I am leading a project looking at the impact sidewalk temperatures have on heat stroke. Additionally, I am working on a project that looks at using shaved ice versus regular ice for cooling in the emergency room.

    I serve as a Dari/Farsi interpreter and patient educator/navigator. I interpret for medical students, medical assistants, and providers when seeing patients. I help with patient-in takes, check-ins/check-outs, coordinating transportation, and medical visits. I lead different patient education programs, such as lead education for newly arrived refugees, how to use a pharmacy for non-English speakers, and cancer screenings and preventative care for our patients. Our team has created personalized videos, pamphlets, and guides that further empower patients' control over their health.I have gained a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and social determinants of health that many populations face. Volunteering at Wesley has equipped me with skills to serve patients from all backgrounds, something I plan to continue doing throughout medical school and beyond.

    I am the team leader on a project studying how language used in cancer communication impacts preventative care. We conducted 3 surveys for 600 people that measured their opinions on cancer communication and used ANOVA/linear regressions to analyze the results.I co-founded and lead a project that developed an artificial intelligence chatbot to provide evidence-based skin cancer information. We used Python to create a working prototype with all information retrieved from peer-reviewed, published papers, which can be found at Proggyai.com.Our AI chatbot team is currently collaborating with the Daneshjou Lab at Stanford University for clinical verification and the Skin Cancer Institute at the University of Arizona to prepare for public use.I am also a member of the Adaptive Therapy wet lab project, an evolutionary approach to cancer treatment that uses a mice model to treat colon cancer.
