As a graduate student, I saw first hand the potential of AI in structural biology. My publication on the regulatory mechanisms of the Arf GEF Sec7 (which regulates practically all trafficking at the TGN), leveraged both experimental and AlphaFold predicted structures to determine two conformations I validated are relevant to function. But AI has a long way to go, and there will always be unknowns (known and unknown) missing from training data. Wet-lab biochemistry isn't going anywhere!As a post-doc, I started working on climate biotechnologies that I thought were impossibly futuristic just a few years ago, made reasonable by a technology we're developing at Forage Evolution.
