For nearly 20 years, Mr. Docherty has represented a vast array of healthcare and medical interests before all areas of state government, including physicians and surgeons, pharmacists, mid-level healthcare providers, medical device manufacturers and health facilities. He also currently serves as Executive Director of the California Orthotic & Prosthetic Association, whose members restore function to those patients suffering from limb loss and birth defects. Mr. Docherty is also an Adjunct Professor at Touro University specializing in grassroots lobbying and the importance of political advocacy. Mr. Docherty has been solely responsible for the overall direction, integrity and strategic success of such efforts as restoring benefit coverage in the Medi-Cal Program for healthcare services and devices slated for state budget cuts, as well as building diverse support coalitions for major policy objectives such as implementing the largest overhaul of the Physician Assistant Practice Act since its inception more that 30 years ago. Mr. Docherty merged his own successful lobbying practice into KP Public Affairs and prior to establishing his firm, Mr. Docherty was the Associate Director of Government Relations for the California Medical Association – the largest statewide physician trade association in the country.
