I completed a 450-hour unpaid internship at the Buffalo District Health Department in order to graduate with my Health Promotion degree! This internship really helped me realize that I was in the correct field and would enjoy my work if I could do anything like this. My time here was extremely community-based and I got to experience a ton of different activities and events. I was able to go around to many assisted living arrangements to do “Healthy Talks” with the residents over health problems that could arise with them. I was in the schools almost weekly doing lessons on everything from tobacco use and vaping with high schoolers to general hygiene and hand-washing with early elementary students. I completed an 8-week anti-bullying program with a group of sixth graders, participated in car seat installation events, as well as attended multiple health and safety days at various different schools.

I was a part time stock boy at Allen’s IGA in Morehead for 4 years while attending Morehead State University! I had many roles here, such as; keeping shelves stocked, keeping carts inside and clean, maintaining the dairy section and meat section (after butchers had left I would set out meat that was packaged already), and I would close the store down when working night shift. This included cleaning the bathrooms, taking out all trash, then sweeping and spot-mopping the store.
