  I am responsible for maintaining organization and cleanliness in my lab; this includes washing glassware, refilling buffer solvents, keeping track of as well as stocking and reordering certain expendable items for the lab from brushes and centrifuge tubes to solvents such as acetonitrile, MeOH , IPA and so on. Lyophilizing and weighing out our product (peptide) keeps me pretty busy when I'm not directly assisting chemists, we need to weigh our products every day. Along with weighing out for our records I also have to use special scales and procedures to weigh our product out for shipping and testing. Along with lyophilizing (lyo) our peptides and products I alone am in charge of servicing and maintaining five lyos for our immediate lab, I do everything for them up until the point a real trained profession needs to be called in to fix them. This can be a tedious part of my duties and it usually needs to be handled on top of everything else happening so managing my work load and what is expected of me is crucial. Besides my normal duties as a lab assistant I also organize a section in our warehouse dedicated to lab's inventory, including older equipment we keep for parts or repair as well as the many bottles and other containers we ship our product in. Other laboratory duties include purifying peptides on an HPLC machine, checking results on a diagnostic quality HPLC as well as Mass Spectrometer before providing Quality Control with any samples they will need before we can ship our product to our customers. Reading the HPLC data requires our best judgment and critical thinking to dictate the best cut to lyophilize and get best yield for the target purity.I have also been trained for HAZWOPER services at my site, this includes using an air purifying respirator for dumping hazardous waste from carboy containers attached to our HPLC systems into waste drums. From their I use a drum dolly to take the waste pick up outside into the designated HMU for waste.
