Profile bio

About Bryce M.

Born & raised just off of the Mississippi river in Wisconsin and driven by a passion for working in molecular biology based technologies. My education in organismal level biology, as well as molecular biology and biochemistry, combined with 2 years of organic synthesis of small novel molecules has been the framework in which I began my career as an oligonucleotide synthetic chemist. My introduction to phosphoramidite based oligonucleotide synthetic chemistry was incurred by my initial position at Velocity Sicences, where I was tasked with the organic synthesis of novel phosphoramidite moieties. The experience I have working in research with organic chemistry and oligonucleotide synthetic chemistry has fortified critical thinking skills, independent problem solving, and on the spot decision making. Organic chemistry research has also provided me with the skill of instrumentation such as NMR (H, C, F), mass spec, and conventional methods like flash chromatography and TLC. An area I particularly excel at is determination of solvent system polarities necessary for efficient flash chromatography. Additionally, working with oligonucleotides has afforded me the opportunity to develop skills and experience working with the robotic instruments from LGC, MerMade (48x, 12, 192x models), developing method scripts and servicing the instruments as needed- insuring the highest quality product with ideal yields through understanding the chemistry and nuances of phopshoramidite synthesis. Other skills that have been honed through my work include: HPLC purification (Agilent 1260, 1290), Cytiva Akta Pure systems, MALDI-TOF, gel electrophoresis, gel-purifications, NHS-Chemistry based conjugations. One of my greatest strengths is that of my greatest pleasures- learning new skills and understanding new challenges that I face each day.
