I led a team building compelling, thorough, and reusable business-intelligence tools in R Shiny. This includes bringing actuarial expertise into product design. Our products are developed from the ground up to manage risk. We take the time to focus on non-technical end-users that want an experience that is feature-rich and frustration-free.I led our open-source efforts and I manage and was the primary contributor to the R package "easyr."I grew the OW Lighthouse and Shipyard products into recognized brands within our organization and built a team to deliver high-quality custom applications in short timeframes (typically 2 months), supporting over $3.5 million in annual revenue with a team of only 6 individuals.

I supported the information needs of the Sales Operations department, including:- Salesforce.com management, architecture and integrations;- Combining JavaScript, CSS, Visualforce and Apex to build dynamic and efficient custom Salesforce components;- Vetting and selecting new software solutions and vendors;- Reporting, modeling and other technical work;- Market research;- Document automation leveraging VBA;- and more.

I completed projects supporting a national actuarial team including: ad-hoc analysis; data extraction and processing; and development and implementation of decision-support applications.Achievements:- Within weeks of starting the position, I used Access to re-create an Excel tool the team was working on in order to take advantage of the many features of Access, including: streamlined user-interface; formatted report and output; and enhanced data integrity.- Used knowledge of ASP.Net, SQL and VBA technologies to transition an actuarial underwriting application from the web to an MS Access/SQL application in just six months, by myself, with no loss of functionality (and with added enhancements). This project had been attempted and abandoned many times prior to my involvement. The app now relies on SQL and VBA - technologies that many actuaries are familiar with - as opposed to the previous black-box ASP.net web application which required significant IT support.- Established best practices for application design and implementation and provided technical consultation on a number of projects as a result of my reputation for technical expertise.- Upon accepting responsibility for a critical model used in the company for years, I identified process and design improvements to provide added transparency, better support informed decisions, and improve usability and user value.- Worked with IT to set up a virtual machine for testing applications on older Windows versions as well as a SQL server database which our team uses to serve data to users.

Reporting and data analysis from an SQL database. Proposal and RFP writing. Enhancing the sales process by designing and implementing effective research, data tracking and reporting, marketing presentations/documents, and sales tools. Providing support for statistical and actuarial projects.Achievements:- Designed and completed C-Everett-Koop-award-winning, matched-control statistical analysis on the effect of Vitality engagement on health insurance claims.- Won first prize for a team-based research project at the 2011 Discovery Actuarial Conference for innovation and thought leadership in South Africa.- Created sales presentations presented to fortune 500 companies including Disney, Allstate, BP and Xerox.- Redesigned reporting and tracking of sales activity and the sales pipeline using a user-friendly Access database driven by VBA code. The aggregate report I created has been referred to as the best operational report in the company.- Created business tools in excel utilizing extensive VBA and advanced Excel and Access functions, resulting in significantly improved department efficiency. This includes a geo-mapping distance analysis tool, a tool to automatically generate a complex document from a few user inputs and a SQL-based database with an Access front-end to track and report sales activity.
