I have been developing an inclusive design and accessibility practice into the Microsoft Devices process encouraging our engineers and designers to not limit he function of human diversity with the forms that we create. To intentionally include people with disabilities when defining our products. The Xbox Adaptive Controller is part of my work as well as many accessibility enhancements to our line of Surface products.

My focus at Xbox has been to help the organization strive to meet our Gaming for Everyone mission of making, "Xbox the place where everyone has fun" I have been working across our platform, hardware, and studio teams to help people practice Microsoft Inclusive Design to intentionally include gamers with disabilities in the thing we create. Some highlights are ensuring that the Fluent redesign of the Xbox One OS was the most accessible dash to date, launching Xbox Copilot which allows people to split input across multiple controllers if they cannot use a controller as it was designed, and opening the Inclusive Tech Lab where visitors learn about the challenges faced by gamers with disabilities.

For the NXoE release of the Xbox One my focus was designing assistive technologies for the console. I designed the high contrast theme, interaction patterns for Magnifier and how the Xbox One home should function with a screen reader, Microsoft Narrator. I continue to iterate, improve and expand these features across the Xbox One. I worked across other platforms where Xbox is working to make sure that the experiences that we create are accessible to people of all abilities no matter which device they are using: console, Android, iOS, and PC.

On the membership team I worked to make the creation and management of your family across Microsoft services easier. I strived to consolidate and simplify the administration of the accounts of your family, streamline the addition of the profiles to your devices, and to have parents feel secure that their children are safe when they go online.

At Xbox I was privileged to be part of the team that launched the Xbox One console. My areas of responsibility were Microsoft account creation and Sign-in, Settings, Help, Purchase flows, and Family creation & management. Before that I worked on Xbox.com designing Account.xbox.com and Forums.xbox.com.

CAREER HIGHLIGHT: It was a privilege to be part of the Microsoft SQL UX group as the designer for Microsoft PowerPivot a new product that changes business intelligence by empowering information workers with the ability to conduct ad-hoc data analysis on massive amounts of data in a familiar Excel environment.

Working closely with program managers, researchers, developers, testers and other designers my focus was to bring the AX Enterprise Web Portal user experience closer to that of the Windows Client while not discarding the best features or interaction patterns from SharePoint and best-of-breed web applications. I was part of a larger cross-team design and research projects that impacts the product strategy and the future direction of Microsoft Dynamics.

I was responsible for the Navantis User Interface division, managing developers and coordinating their schedules. I was actively involved with the creation of strategies that we pitch to clients, bringing to the table the skills that I have acquired. I communicated with clients and vendors to ensure that projects progress smoothly. I trained junior developers in the best practices that I have learned. My duties also included interface and navigation layout, information architecture, usability and accessibility consulting, project management, as well as the design and production of Content Management and Knowledge management systems.CAREER HIGHLIGHT: I designed the online library for the Canadian National institute for the Blind, a project selected as a winner in the 2003 Microsoft Certified Partner Awards - Collaborative Solution of the Year.CAREER HIGHLIGHT: I was a member of the Program Advisory committee for Sheridan College’s “Communications, Culture and Information Technology” program in 2008.CAREER HIGHLIGHT: In 1999 I joined a small Microsoft partner as Designer #1 and Employee #4. When I left that partner to join Microsoft I had built a practice and team of a dozen interface developers, designers and business analysts across their Toronto, Canada and Colombo, Sri Lanka offices.

I came to Karo to help them transform the work of their graphic designers into working websites for their clients. I also helped create Office friendly templates for the branding material that Karo designed.
