Over the last two years of my program I have designed, built, and successfully tested an experimental test facility to address fundamental limitations in achieving near-diesel efficiencies in heavy-duty on-road liquified petroleum gas (LPG) engines. This project has involved multiple imaging techniques such as Schlieren and planar Mie scattering imaging to view and measure both vapor and liquid penetration lengths, widths, angles, and speeds of multiple gasoline direct injection (GDI) injectors at engine like conditions.

Powerhouse Energy Institute

At the Powerhouse Energy Institute, I assisted in research efforts regarding the atomization, evaporation, and mixing processes of multi-phase hydrocarbon fuels in an annular spray burner. Characterizing and measuring, physical and chemical properties of fuels and their flames that influence combustion efficiency, stability, and emissions in internal combustion engines. Designed, and rebuilt a new lab facility for for the investigation of combustion phenomena, flames, fuel characterizations, and laser diagnostics. Assisted in research and design efforts, investigating the dilution rate of natural gas into oil for a natural gas reciprocating engine. As well as gathering lubricant field samples from compressor sites for the analysis of dissolved gases into said lubricant. Assisted in the design and modification of a gasoline fuel cart to incorporate temperature control features for the analysis of gasoline vapor within a fuel tank.

At Regal Air, I assisted in the categorization of thousands of airplane components within a specific database. Recorded manufacturing numbers and quality of parts. Captured, edited and published over 300 photos and listings of 1930’s to 1990’s airplane components.

At Aquatic and Wetland Nursery (AWN) I worked part-time during the summers between school. I would tend to hundreds of thousands of wetland, native, and riparian plants. I acquired skills such as handling watering systems, recycling soil, harvesting native seedlings, transplanting thousands of trees, and riparian species. I also managed deliveries and orders on site.
