I was promoted to Analyst III within 14 months for quickly adapting to my position and for wanting to take on challenges in addition to my Analyst II responsibilities. While continuing those responsibilities, I now train new analysts on the daily, monthly, and quarterly processing duties of an Analyst II while acting as a mentor and liaison during the beginning of their careers. I have also become successfully independent in my monthly and quarterly tasks.

On a daily basis as a Securities Analyst II, I was responsible for documenting, allocating, and reporting up to 200 incoming cash transactions in Microsoft Excel for my client deals. I also efficiently utilized internal tools to research client deal information, document transactions, make electronic cash transfers, conduct disbursements, and submit formal reports.On a monthly basis, I completed reporting activities for 5 client deals including internal reconciliation, data tie out and comparison with client data, data entry, report generation, and report distribution to clients and investors. On a quarterly basis, I shadowed disbursement tasks for 5 client deals including retrieving and processing invoices, calculating disbursement amounts, generating 3 reports to detail the disbursement schedule, distributing the reports to clients and investors, and disbursing the appropriate amounts according to the schedule.

As a Business Intelligence intern, I primarily interpreted Individual and Small Group regulatory health insurance premium rate filings for various carriers and states. This work was critical for senior management to understand competitive positioning and inform strategic changes for the upcoming year. I learned to understand and apply the rate setting process used in the insurance industry with extensive use of Microsoft Excel, as well as used critical thinking skills to collect and manipulate imprecise and ambiguous sources of data. My everyday responsibilities allowed me to work closely with analytical and strategic management individuals within the consumer division of Anthem, as well as other interns.

This personal contact is the best way to communicate important campus news and explain the importance of the Annual Fund. The Student Calling Center provides a convenient way for Virginia Tech alumni to pledge financial support to the university. While this support goes a long way toward bolstering the university’s overall operating budget, the conversations with Virginia Tech students are the number one reason alumni pledge their support.
