My role in this position is to contribute to the sustainable management of biodiversity in Kenya by engaging communities in our focal landscape (the Tsavo Conservation Area) in positive conservation actions. This includes developing collaborative methods to help sustainably manage natural resources and protect against poaching and other illegal activities impacting Tsavo communities. Our interventions aim to improve community attitudes towards conservation and the National Park and ensure target communities are engaged and supportive of the National Park. My core responsibilities include: Supporting in development and implementation of livelihoods initiatives and enterprise in the target community. Identifying and engaging key market actors for HWC resilient products, understanding their objectives, hooks and potential opportunities for collaboration. Facilitating the identification and resolution of bottle necks in the value chain. Designing and implementing appropriate socio-economic surveys to guide project activities and monitor and evaluate project outcomes. And training and providing ongoing support to strengthen business skills and market linkages.

Kenya

My role was to oversee the sensitization, recruitment and appropriate training of farmer producer groups to enhance agricultural production while promoting general livelihoods of target households.This involved facilitating trainings in GAP, crop protection, post-harvest handling, quality standards assurance, contract administration, market systems development, crop utilization and value addition to strengthen agricultural value chains. Coaching participating youth groups on financial inclusion, financial education, agribusiness and enterprise development leading to formation of Village Group Savings and Loaning schemes. Facilitating institutional development of community structures to enhance smallholder farmers’ collective action, linkage to markets, and to advocate for enabling business environment.

In this role, I implemented agricultural project activities and represented ADS-Maua station in the area of agriculture. I also assisted in developing M&E tools and surveys, conducting assessment and reporting as well as project proposal development.
