My job as business analyst is to help standardize common functions across the Agency, simplify business processes, and to document these improved processes. I often serve as the connection between the Agency's business lines and the IT team, ensuring that the technical team understands user requirements and can build solutions that meet user needs.In my time at the Agency I've also worked on the Business Process and Service Transformation initiative, which focused on business process simplification across the Agency, with the eventual goal of transitioning all processes to a new case management system (Microsoft Dynamics CRM, SCMS).

At CT Labs we’re outcomes people. We'd prefer not to "write a report" or “run a workshop”; we want to co-create an outcome – with you and with whomever you need to draw upon to make that outcome a reality. In doing so, we become your advisors, your collaborators, and an extension of your workforce to support every aspect of making your shared vision into a reality.So what is that called?Some of the more helpful buckets that I've found are: --> Strategic Planning (with Lego -- ask me how), --> Situational Awareness (we call it 12 Windows -- think of it as a more engaging and context-rich environmental scan), --> Stakeholder Engagement (user adoption, if you're in more of an IT world), --> Performance Metrics (including executive dashboards), and--> Prioritization (we like to call it Collaborative Decision Support)."Facilitation" is a frequently used label for much of what we do. Our events often deal with rooms ranging from 5 to 500 people, and with durations ranging from an hour to a week. The intentions of the room vary, but regardless of the content, we provide insight into the context, enabling long-term, whole system transformations.

At Systemscope I provided business transformation and analysis services in areas such as process and organizational analysis, stakeholder engagement and user adoption, information architecture, user experience design, and whole-systems facilitation. My specialization was in executive dashboard design and creation -- particularly one-page comprehensive diagnostic reporting systems. To my knowledge, the Treasury Board Secretariat still uses the dashboard I created in their yearly inventory the Government of Canada’s top-25 priority programs.

My primary role at Jacques Whitford (which is now Stantec Ltd), was as a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Consultant. This involved quantifying GHG emissions for municipalities, companies, and utility providers; as well as designing corporate reduction strategies and/or community engagement strategies to reduce overall emissions.In addition to this work, I doubled as a field technician on environmental assessments. My focus was on wetland delineation, ambient noise monitoring, and air quality and particulate monitoring.

I filled many roles over my time at EWB. In Canada, I began as one of the founding executives of the University of New Brunswick Chapter, where I spent successive years as VP Fundraising, VP Finance, and President. After my President's term, I became an executive advisor and coach, leading retreats, workshops, and strategy sessions for the newer executive. During this time I also developed a high school outreach program where we co-taught a grade 12 leadership course at Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton.Overseas, I was UNB’s first Junior Fellow in Ghana, West Africa, where I worked with the Rural Aid Action Programme (RAAP), a rural Ghanaian NGO working in Ghana’s Upper West Region. During the project I provided basic and advanced MS Office training for local NGO staff, developed leadership training programs, and built organisational capacity through the introduction and application of Results Based Management to all facets of operations. And, if nothing else, I gained an improved understanding of rural livelihoods and the complexity of community development by living and farming with native Ghanaians.

I worked as an intern with some of the fine people that now work at CT Labs. The work was essentially the same, so the overall description of CT Labs fits here.As an intern I had two major projects:1. Inventorying all of the 'prominent' large group engagement and change methodologies. Anything from Open Space to World Cafe; Appreciative Inquiry to Balanced Scorecard; and Six Sigma to Future Search. I pulled the principles, guidelines, and general usages out of all of these methodologies to test against (and enhance) the CT offering.2. The development of a metrics-based diagnostic tool that would enable clients to determine the best collaborative approach to take, given key change variables to be addressed. (We're bringing it back out of retirement soon, once the code/graphics are more 2011 appropriate, I'll link to it here.)
