I have recently completed my student placement at Youth Off The Streets Eden College. As a social work student, I was able to be physically present at Eden College for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions, lockdowns, and school closures, I was able to remotely provide services to students, families, and staff to enhance their social, academic, and emotional wellbeing, while at the same time enhancing my knowledge base in school social work through online professional learning modules.Youth Off The Streets Eden College prides itself on its innovative approach to working with students who are unable or unwilling to participate in mainstream education by providing disengaged and vulnerable youth with an opportunity to continue their educational studies in a holistically supportive, caring and nurturing environment. I commenced my first placement of four hundred hours at Creating Links as an out-of-home-care case manager and contact worker.Creating Links is a not-for-profit community organisation located in Bankstown, Camden, and Faulconbridge.My role at Cresting Links included, but was not limited to:- Working with a culturally diverse and innovative team.- Case Management duties and tasks.- Case note writing.- Restoration work.- Family preservation work.- Conducting home visits with young people and their foster families.- Life Story work.- Writing up home visit reports.- Conducting cultural care plans.- Attendance of case plan meetings and writing up case plans.- developing positive and professional relationships, trust, and rapport with young people, their foster families, and birth families.- Individual Education Plans.- Leaving Care Plans.- Attending internal training sessions.- Comprehension and knowledge of the legal aspects in the out-of-home-care sector and child protection.-ROSH reports.-Risk assessments.-Contact work between young people and their birth families, and writing up of family visit reports.
