The AEI Civic Renewal Fellowship brings together 20 participants who is gathering virtually and in-person to learn more about the principles of civil discourse and strong institutions, and how to help rebuild our nation’s institutions from the local level on up.With the rise of polarization in America today, the foremost casualty is the quality of our civil discourse. When discourse becomes fraught, the ability to properly disagree with one another breaks down. This weakens the strength of our communities, faith in our institutions, and impairs consensus-building. The AEI Civic Renewal Fellowship seeks to address that breakdown by bringing together professionals, community leaders, and problem-solvers to learn about and implement the principles of civil discourse in their work and communities, refine their leadership skills, and build relationships across issue areas.

In late 2009, Houston entrepreneur and native Hoosier Michael Holthouse asked local entrepreneur Scott Jones (www.scottajones.com) to bring this great program that he founded – Lemonade Day — to the Indianapolis area. This unique program teaches kids how to start, own and operate their own business: a lemonade stand. Kids viscerally learn about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, philanthropy and much more. Scott agreed without hesitation to spearhead Lemonade Day in Indianapolis and started a new foundation – The Think Forward Foundation – to do it. It was a huge commitment but he didn’t hesitate. Here’s why…Today fewer and fewer kids are engaging in entrepreneurial activities like mowing lawns or starting lemonade stands. And yet many entrepreneurs talk about their early childhood experiences starting lemonade stands, or selling golf balls to empty-handed golfers, as the moment when the “light bulb went off.” The moment when they knew they could control their own destinies and possibly even change the world with their ideas. A lemonade stand did that for Scott, and he wants other kids to have that “light bulb” moment.

We’re bombarded by marketing. Estimates have the average American adult receiving, if even against their will, over a thousand advertising messages every day. Internet, radio, TV, direct mail, billboards, and Facebook friends, all talking at us with special offers, that are new and improved, voted best of this or that – we’re getting exhausted. At Simplify, our goal is to communicate your essence so your customers can see you clearly in the midst of a cluttered world. Whatever your business: public, private, non-profit or startup; whatever the medium: web, print, word-of-mouth, or mass media… whatever your goals, Simplify works.
