About B. Scott Wells
“Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt to offer a solution everybody can understand.” This quote from General Colin Powell sums up how I feel about leadership. A leader is simply the person that gets everyone on board with their vision and strategy. They are the ones who take care of their people so that their people will take care of them. Many years ago, General Powell published his 13 rules of leadership – many of which I agree with such as “Don’t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision,” “Remain calm. Be kind,” “Have a vision” and “Share the credit.” People rise to be managers in their career for different reasons. However, the reason I became a leader was so that I could make the greatest impact on the people who work with me. You will see in my experience detailed below that my background is diverse. I started in retail management and when I enlisted in the Air Force, I entered the manufacturing career field. Once in leadership roles in the Air Force, I oversaw manufacturing and production operations – directing teams that ranged from 37 to more than 800 technical specialists to find the delicate balance between the sense of urgency to meet deadlines, a dedication to quality work done right the first time and a focus on safety.I am confident that my ability to build sincere relationships with my team, to understand their needs and their motivators, to gain their trust that they could come to me with whatever happened – good or bad – and know I would support them, even when I must steer them in a new direction has been the key to my success. I can be reached at bscottwells21@gmail.com to discuss any opportunities where you believe I can add value to your team through my people-focused leadership style and strategic, proactive planning skills.
