Classroom instruction introduced students to the legacy of Aviation and the American Space Program, while addressing current issues within the science and technology community. Participants learned the importance of teamwork and communication by participating in simulated astronaut training, realistic space shuttle missions, stress-inducing and time-sensitive physical challenges, and simulated jet-fighter pilot training. Working in small groups, the students were presented with “Challenges” to explore problem-solving scenarios using hands-on science, mathematics, and engineering skills. Many of the activities required students to present their findings or opinions to a panel of experts or their peers.• As Supervisor of HLCA, I was responsible for curriculum development and implementation of new activities. I also had the opportunity to the mentor the four Ambassadors each week. The ambassadors were responsible for training with staff, managing social media, and leading various activities for the HLCA participants. When not with the HLCA participants, Ambassadors where enhancing their leadership, communication, and public interaction skills to begin planning their future career path. Show less
