When I was young, I wanted to be a zoologist. So, how is it that for the last 5 years, I've been an English teacher?It is simple enough to trace my career back to my passion for reading. At first, it was animal books — about giraffes and manatees; dogs; elephants. Everything on my journey to zoology tracked smoothly on a course to the destination I wanted -- working with giraffes. Hyperspecific, I'm sure, but I digress. Somewhere in the books about animals, I moved toward literary fiction. I think it was my encounter with a book called "Modoc" by Ralph Helfer. This tailspin into the facets of literature combined with English teachers in high school who fundamentally changed my life brought me to my true, undeniable passion: reading and writing. There's something only a good book can give -- love, loss, empathy, joy, sorrow, pain, panic -- I could go on. Further, there's something only a passionate English teacher can deliver - an understanding of the worlds into which we travel in novels and in those worlds, knowledge of our own.My goal in life evolved like the first draft of a first book. After rewrites and edits, I reach my publishable end. I want to help foster a love of reading and writing in young learners. I want to work with a publishing company that brings life-changing stories to life so that young learners can find who they are meant to be. Just like I did. I look forward to working with you.
