I spoke with a wide range of people, from whistleblowers and victims to experts and officials. These conversations were sometimes challenging. Gaining the trust of sources, particularly those who faced possible repercussions for speaking out, was essential. Verification was key. Every piece of information had to be cross-checked and corroborated. This often meant going back to sources multiple times and seeking out additional evidence to ensure accuracy. Collaboration with lawyers was also part of the job, as the legal implications of investigative stories could and still can be significant.Writing the story is the culmination of all this work. It must be compelling and clear, providing readers with a comprehensive understanding of the issue at hand. The aim was not just to inform, but to provoke thought and, sometimes, action.Ultimately, my role as an investigative journalist was about serving public interest morethsn fame. It was about shining a light on the truth and giving a voice to those who might otherwise gone unheard.
