As a member of the Engineering Services team, I worked with another engineer toward the goal of enhancing the build, deployment, and configuration software for A9's Search Service, and identifying and optimizing any pain points engineers were encountering in their day to day work.

Along with a manager I relocated to Dublin and was one the initial engineer on A9's Dublin Search Operations team. In this role, I assisted with hiring and training of a complete team, serving in an on call role for amazon.com's produciton search service, scaling the search service worldwide as needed, and streamlining the monitoring of the system to both reduce alarming and catch problems that previously went unnoticed. Additionally, I assisted in the development of tools and process that enabled the deployment of Amazon's search software worldwide on a weekly basis and successfully mentored an intern to a subsequent hiring as a software development engineer the next year at Amazon Dublin.

As an engineer on the relevance team, my primary tasks involved measurements of search relevance, both for internally developed rankings and against competitors. This was done using A-B testing on amazon.com, log analysis, internal tools, and using rankings collected via mechanical turk to perform computations such as Discounted Cumulative Gain.

Succeeded in my goal of a net reduction of lines of code committed through large refactorings of the numerous systems I inherited while at NexTag.

In my roles as a programmer and lead programmer as Rescomp, I filled both development, design, administrative, and leadership roles including: * Hired, trained and supervised a team of student programmers responsible for the development, maintenance, and documentation of web-based applications written in Perl, PostgreSQL, and Apache, used in the management of the In-Room Connection program to provide support to dorm residents and UC Staff.* Developed and maintained web-based applications used by students and staff, including an XML/XSLT based employee management and hiring system and a collaborated on building bandwidth reporting tools aggregating hundreds of millions of rows of data.* Provided primary support and administration for multiple PostgreSQL databases, including table design, optimization, writing stored procedures, database backup and restoration, and migration from Oracle to PostgreSQL.
