As the Director of the Firearm-Related Harm & Violence Prevention (FHVP) Program Office I oversee and focus on helping communities design and implement their own firearm-related harm prevention strategies. In addition to providing technical assistance and training based on the needs and wants of communities, the FHVP Program will outreach to Colorado young people, parents, educators, faith leaders, firearm owners, researchers, local political leaders and many others across the state who want to be part of the solution to ensure their unique perspectives are included in this public health approach to firearm-related harm prevention. These outreach efforts will inform the development of a strategic plan to build action from the 2023 Roundtable report and support the creation of a second statewide convening later this year.

The Office of Gun Violence Prevention is a new office in CDPHE that will coordinate and promote effective strategies to reduce gun violence in Colorado.

I am responsible for creating a program for justice-involved students which will allow a comprehensive plan for their successful transition to MSU Denver and support needed in order to be successful.Scope of work:Serve as a one point of contact for faculty, staff, students, and community members who are or can be involved with providing support and resources necessary for the success of justice-involved students.Identify and engage students who may be eligible for program.Create framework for a Justice-Involved Program.Research similar programs to find best practices/models. Create partnerships with key stakeholders both in the state of Colorado and the campus community.30% - Case Management SupportProvide holistic case management support to justice-involved students. Assist students in navigating a variety of academic and financial processes appeals as well as policies at the University.Support justice-involved students with basic needs resource referrals for food, housing, and other unmet needs.Assist with referrals to the emergency fund.Assist with any referrals to mental health resources or additional support students may need. Maintain a system of follow up for students who are referred to campus or community resources, including providing services to encourage compliance with recommendations and care protocols.

As the Community Affairs Liaison my job duties ranged from resolving day-to-day constituent concerns to consulting youth gun violence reduction policy. I often engaged with other City agencies includingPublic Works and Denver Police, external stakeholders (Denver Public Schools), constituents(registered neighborhood organizations), media, and other groups, and served as liaison on behalf of the council member to address community issues or problems.A major component of my job was assisting Councilman Brooks during meetings and attending them in his absence.I lead our office’s role in the strategic planning of a city-wide, multi-agency, coordinated youth gun violence reduction/prevention plan and recruited support from national partners such as the National League of Cities and Cities United.

As a Gang Intervention Case Manager I served an important part of the Gang Reduction Initiative of Denver (GRID). Using Denver's comprehensive approach to reducing violent gang activity within its communities I would connect and engage high-risk gang members and families to intervention services. I served as a liaison between the community, gang involved youth and families, and the agencies (whether social services, corrections or law enforcement) that respond to the problem of community gang violence.

As Program Coordinator I administered many of the programs Open Door for which Open Door had received funding. This included, staffing, documenting services rendered, maintaining rosters of clients served, recruiting community involvement, mentors, guests speakers and planning community service events.
