Currently an associate professor of microbiology, and head of the Medical Microbiology Department, at College of Medicine, Khoms, Libya. I was a biological scientist and obtained my BSc (Hons) in 1980 from Libya, MSc in 1983 in bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, and PhD in 1992 from the same university in Microbial Food Safety. My post-graduate research covered determination of the mechanism of action of antimicrobials in Listeria monocytogenes. I have worked in scientific research, predominantly as a microbiologist. I have a vast record of twelve years of post-graduate teaching, practical research/publishing, and administration in microbiology (medical, food), and microbial genetics to both medical and MSc students. I have wide expertise in microbial food safety practices, microbiological risk assessment, and consulting to governmental, private, and public sectors in foodborne microbial disease hazards.My microbiology research in academia has involved molecular and physiological characterization, and genetic relatedness of bacteria involved in gastrointestinal diseases.
